2014 Advent Reflection: Second Week
Comfort for Gods People
1 Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.
2 Speak tenderly to Jerusalem,
and cry to her
that her warfare is ended,
that her iniquity is pardoned,
that she has received from the Lords hand
double for all her sins.
Until the Son of God appear. But we are yet still waiting.
And we will continue to wait! Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.
But when is HE coming back? The expectation of God’s imminent return, of God’s ultimate deliverance, fills the air with excitement and certainly one can sense the coming of the soon coming King through the various Advent readings. When we read the various texts, using our current backdrop of political and social unrest, such as in Ferguson, Missouri, it is not a hard sell to understand the apocalyptic mindset that is being used by so many in the social media. Today we are hearing so many saying, “The Lord is soon to come!” Until his return, we just don’t sit around doing nothing, no; we are to be busy preparing for His return.
