The First Week of Advent
Come, Lord Jesus, Come! Come and visit your people.
We await with earnest expectation of your coming.
“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light —
on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.” (Isaiah 9:2)
Advent, we begin by lighting one of the purple candles, is essence shine the light of HOPE in the midst of all the darkness surrounding our lives and in the world. This HOPE that we have is grounded in you. Our HOPE is that we will be renewed by you and the environment that surrounds us be infused with the spirit of HOPE.
Invitation to Prayer: As we begin the Advent journey, let us pray for the gifts of awareness of God’s plan for us, the patience to wait as it unfolds, and the readiness to act when it is revealed.
Prayer: God of our Advent journey, we welcome Your light on our way, knowing that light has a way of changing things. Lord, please help me be patience, but not complacent, either in my own life or in my response to the needs of others, ever mindful that “the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”
Personal Challenge: Not to rush too quickly toward Christmas. Let us linger on the mountain roads of Advent a little longer with a longer for the coming King.
